The holidays are approaching, and the weeks are looking busy, busy, busy.
Today there are at least two big book sales in libraries that I’ve bookmarked: one in Alexandria’s Beatley Central Library and one in Fairfax’s Kingstowne Library (next to Wegman’s) (both start at 10 am).
Today is also the opening of the newly-renovated Renwick Gallery (10am-5pm), and they’re celebrating with family-friendly activities. Today might also be a good day to catch the new surrealist sculpture exhibit at the Hirshhorn at their Family Fun day.
If you’re lucky, you might even be able to catch some of the B-Boy Jam at the Kennedy Center, the culminating event of the Words, Beats, & Life Teach-In. Registration begins at 1 pm and final rounds start at 6 pm.
Alternatively, you could saunter through the National Harbor (12pm-7pm) or Downtown Silver Spring (6pm-8pm), which will host festive activities, wares, and decorations to celebrate their holiday tree centerpiece.
I know the weather is getting colder, but there should still be a park date for homeschoolers at River Farm’s Children’s Garden from 10am-12pm.
There’s also a Book Club meeting at Duncan Library at 12:30pm (discussing Ginger Pye), and a Crazy 8s Club meeting at Beatley Library at 7pm.
Opera NOVA is performing The Barber of Seville, and they’re inviting homeschoolers to the school performance slot today (10 am).
The Navy Museum in southeast DC is also hosting their monthly homeschool science session today from 10am-2pm. This month: kinetic and potential energy. Drop-in anytime.
There’s, of course, the weekly park date from 2-5ish pm. This month it’s at Beach Park in Alexandria.
From 10am-1pm, Colonial Williamsburg will stream their latest installment of their monthly HERO American history programming, and this month looks pretty great: The Freedom Quest of Oney Judge.
Great Falls library will have a book sale starting at 10:30 am.
Ceramicist Jeff Herrity will have a gallery talk at the Hirshhorn at 12:30 pm.
There will be an “Electronics Playdate” at Burke Centre Library from 1-2:30 pm. A screen time jubilee!
And, as you might know, Flight has their homeschool discount on Fridays from 2-4 pm.
What to do, what to do…
